Work-in-progress. Initiated in March 2017 with a first meeting with a group of detainees/collaborators, the project consist of creating a series of fictional photographic doorways to be installed permanently in some of the common spaces of the detention center Villenauxe-la-Grande (France). This installation will create a relief (even if very momentary) from the concrete walls of the institution, and a potential way for the multiple users of the space to connect –– a step towards rehabilitation, which is the mission of the project. Since our meeting, the group of detainees/collaborators and I have been corresponding via mail to brainstorm ideas for the elaboration of the imaginary spaces these doorways will lead to, below are some photographs inspired by our exchanges. The final work will be installed and inaugurated in 2018.
